Now that it’s no longer a secret, let’s make it official: I’ve once again teamed up with CDB Scenery Design to bring another beautiful Caribbean island to life in X-Plane: The island of Culebra, home to Benjamín Rivera Noriega Airport and one of the Caribbean’s lesser-known, yet no less challenging approaches. A unique destination offering breathtaking scenery and an exciting flying experience.
The Island
Culebra is a small Caribbean island located east of Puerto Rico, ideally suited for rewarding island-hopping flights between locations such as Vieques, St. Thomas, or the Puerto Rican mainland. The island combines scenic coastlines, sheltered bays, and rolling hills into a compact yet visually distinctive landscape, and the surrounding turquoise waters provide excellent visual references throughout the flight. Whether arriving from a neighboring island or departing on a short VFR hop, Culebra offers a unique blend of natural beauty and engaging flying conditions.

The Airport
Benjamín Rivera Noriega Airport (TJCP/CPX) serves as Culebra’s primary gateway, handling regional flights and general aviation traffic. Despite its modest size, it is well known among Caribbean pilots. The visual approach to Runway 13 is one of the Caribbean’s most memorable challenges. Rather than lining up on a long straight-in final, pilots approach from the northwest over Bahía Flamenco, continue across Laguna del Flamenco through a notch between two hills, and then make a low-altitude left turn to align with the runway at the very last moment.

Culebra XP will be available soon! Stay tuned and follow us here on our website, on Facebook, and in the X-Plane.org and Aerosoft forums for the latest news and release information. Together with Cami De Bellis, I look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful Caribbean destination.
