Over the past few weeks, I continuously reported about the progress of the Faroes4XPlane development. We are now getting closer to the final phase of the project and thus the time has come for a summary:
Faroes4XPlane is a highly realistic recreation of the Faroe Islands, the Vágar Airport and eight helipads. The archipelago is situated between Norway and Iceland and is mountainous, windy, wet, cloudy and cool, what makes it a really challenging destination for air traffic.
The scenery package for X-Plane 11 features a detailed terrain model with various texture sets for a realistic seasonal representation of the landscape, and includes the Vágar Airport (EKVG) and the eight helipads which are spread over the archipelago: Froðba (EKFA), Kirkja (EKKU), Klaksvík (EKKV), Mykines (EKMS), Skúvoy (EKSY), Stóra Dímun (EKSR), Svínoy (EKSO) and Tórshavn/Bodanes (EKTB).
_ Realistic recreation of the complete Faroe Islands with an area of about 1400 km2
_ High resolution terrain mesh with various texture sets for a seasonal representation
_ Customized local terrain details, e.g. realistically sloped runway at the Vágar Airport
_ Detailed rendition of the Vágar Airport and eight helipads spread over the islands
_ Faroese-themed autogen, navigation obstacles and dynamic traffic on the islands
_ Hundreds of custom objects with PBR materials, 3d vegetation, night lighting
And these are just the key features! Be prepared for a challenging approach at the Vágar Airport: Do not lose your focus due to the stunning landscape, because you need to expect a strongly sloped and quite short runway – only 1799 meters. After your successful landing, start a helicopter and explore the scenic situated helipads and settlements.
You ask for the release date? Well, we have a desired release date, but I don’t want – as you surely understand – to publish it as long the beta phase isn’t completed. What I can reveal: If everything goes well, we talk about weeks, not months :-)
